The director of this film is Pierre Morel and the writers are Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. the cinematographer was Michel Abramowicz. The main actors include
Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Leland Orser, Jon Gries, David Warshofsky, Holly Valance, Katie Cassidy, Xander Berkeley, Olivier Rabourdin, Gérard Watkins, Arben Bajraktaraj, Camille Japy, Nicolas Giraud, Nabil Massad.
Taken is about a retired CIA agent who travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris.
A major theme throughout this film includes violence as there is a lot of fighting and dangerous scenes throughout this film. This connotes that the film is trying to attract men and that they are the target audience for this as they are more likely to enjoy the fighting scenes. A minor theme in this film would be mystery. Mainly because mystery is only a theme in a few occasions in this film. Most of the time you can figure out whats going on and what might happen. This connotes the the writer and director wanted to make sure that the viewers wasn't always able to guess what is going to happen throughout the film as they want you on the edge of your seat. During this film it is a matter of success or failure as the father is eager to find his daughter and to figure out where his daughter is and who has her. So throughout the film he could either fail to find his daughter before she gets killed or he could find her in time and be successful. It is also a matter of person versus person as Liam Neeson is trying to find his daughter and is trying to capture the people that have taken his daughter.

The main character is Liam Neeson and his main focus and motivation is to find his daughter and punish whoever had taken her. This connotes that he is the protective type of parent and is still very good at his job as he is able to track her down. The main problem for Liam Neeson is that he is unable to get hold of his daughter so has to start from scratch by finding all of the missing parts to the puzzle. This connotes that Liam Neeson is the heroin the story which fits in with Vladmir Propp's theory of characters as he wis the hero and the daughter is the princess and that the people that have captured her are the villains. He is also unable to really speak to the people that has captured her as they want to stay unknown so that he can't find his daughter. The opposing force in this situation is the people that have captured his daughter as they want to use her in their business and don't war her to be found. This connotes that maybe Liam's character has annoyed someone and that they might want revenge. In the opening all of the characters look presentable and clean which connotes that they all have quite clean and normal jobs. This also connotes that they like to take care of there appearance.

At the beginning the colours used are quite bright which connotes that this film starts of with an equilibrium and starts of very calm and normal and then maybe something horrible goes wrong as the colours gradually get darker so this connotes that things will gradually get worst the will be sorted. This fits in with Todorov's theory of equilibriums and this film starts of with and equilibrium and then a problem appears then eventually gets sorted out. This connotes that this film with have the audience sitting on the edge of their seats. This also fits in with Barthes theory of the enigma code as it will leave the viewers with unanswered questions like what is going to happen next and why the girl haas been captured. A shot used in the opening sequence would include a mid shot when they first show Liam Neeson, this connotes that he is a very important character within this film and that the viewers will need to pay close attention to him.

During the opening sequence, the non diegetic sound that was in the background whilst they was showing the daughter open her presents was quite a unsettling sound as it in a way leaves you on the edge as it creates tension and mystery making the scene more effective. This connotes that something is going to happen and that it will involve the daughter as they are showing an old video tape of her opening a present on her birthday. Diegetic sound used includes the part when it goes to when Liam Neeson is getting into his car and you can hear the cars which the characters would be able to hear. This sound makes the scene more effective and connotes that there may be an important scene that involves cars and traffic. The sound is significant in being able to tell when an important event is going to arise as it helps you figure out what emotion is intended and what is about to happen within the plot/story.

Taken 2

The director of this film was Olivier Megaton and the writers are Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. The cinematographer was Romain Lacourbas. The main actors include
Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Rade Šerbedžija, Leland OrserJon Gries, D.B. Sweeney, Luke Grimes, Olivier Rabourdin.
Taken 2 is based In Istanbul, where a retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter.
A major theme in this film is danger as there is a lot of dangerous scenes within this film whilst the mother and father are captured. This connotes that the film is aimed for people that like watching films with a lot of action and mystery. A minor theme in this film would be romance as it is only portrayed a few times so wouldn't be counted as a major theme.
Throughout this film it is a matter of life and death as there are a lot of violent scenes involved in this film and there is a lot of danger. In this film it is a matter of person versus person as the daughter Kim is trying to save her parents and she is trying to get away from the people that are chasing her. This connotes  that the men that are involved in the capturing seriously have a problem with Liam's character.

In this film the main character is Liam Neeson and all he wants is for his daughter to help find him and his wife so that they can get free and get the people that are against them. This connotes that this is very important in the story as Liam Neeson is one of the main focuses in the film and is in charge of most things. The main characters problem is that his wife has been captured and he ends up captured as well so has to rely on his daughter to save them and get them out of it. This connotes the film will end up mainly focusing on the successes and failure of the daughter and to see if she messes up and risks all or not. The opposing force in this is the people that captured the parents as they obviously don't want them to be found so will try and make things as hard as possible just to ensure that there plans don't get ruined. This connotes that the opposing force obviously have a grudge they are holding or have something against Liam's character.

The colors used in this film are quite dark at the start which connotes that the film may be quite sad and dark. This also connotes that something bad will happen as the colors would be bright if something good was going to happen but it isn't. Towards the end the colors start to brighten up which connotes that an equilibrium has been recreated. This fits in with Todorovs theory of equilibrium as he believed that all films start with an equilibrium and then the equilibrium is challenged then there is a new equilibrium. This film starts with an equilibrium when it denotes the family on holiday. This is then challenged when the parents are captured and it leaves the daughter to try and help get them out of the mess. In a way the daughter acts as the hero and the people that have captured her are the villians. This fits in with Vladmir Propp's theory of characters as there are a few of them in this film. This connotes that in this film the women is the stronger sex as she is the only one able to help get them out of this mess. This subverts to stereotypes as she is the stronger sex in this film and usually women are seen as the weaker sex that are unhelpful however they go against this in the film as the daughter is left to fight for her parents back and has to try and get to them before they get killed. There was a mid shot of Liam Neeson when he is in the car watching another car swerve out of control. This connotes that this part is important as it shows that he is interested in the car so there must be someone he know and dislike in the car otherwise he would ignore it or would try to help. This also connotes that Liam Neeson is the main character throughout the film and that he will either be important in helping someone escape or will be one of the ones that get taken.

The non-diegetic sound used in this at the start creates tension as it is quite fast but stops and starts a lot for effect. This makes the scene more effective as without the sound it wouldn't be as attention grabbing. The scene wouldn't flow as well as it would with the synchronicity of the sound. The diegetic sound used in the scene when Liam Neeson is watching the car swerve uncontrollably . This makes the scene more effective as without the sound of the car you wouldn't have realized how serious it was and wouldn't really know what was happening. The sound is significant in the scenes as it just completes them and makes them better as its more effective with the sound as it helps the viewers feel more involved and helps them make more of a judgement on what they have just watched and what is going to happen next.
