Summary
A highly qualified doctor goes to war to help out in the hospital where he starts to gain friends and starts to bond with the people he is working with and the soldiers. Until there comes the day that he is left to do the life threatening surgery that no-one else is qualified to do and ends up messing up under the pressure and is left with the guilt of knowing he could have saved this patient. With the patient also being one of the people he knew quite well. This consequently ends up braking his confidence and makes it hard for him to treat the patients without worrying and thinking that he cant do it and isn't good enough when he is. This then leads to everyone around him to start worrying as he wouldn't be able to sleep due to the nightmares that he is having and waking up from. he then gets sent home from the war to submitted into a mental hospital to get the he needs. But will this help or hinder his situation.
This film conforms with the convention of main characters because the main character is a man and in a typical thriller film you expect the main character to be a man that will be the main focus of the film and will help create a solution to an equilibrium disrupted. This will denote the the main character as important as the opening will be focused around him.
This film conforms with the convention of Narrative as there is a clear plot and some parts will leave the viewers with unanswered questions just just like Barthes' theory of enigma code. This will make the film more effective as the viewers/audience will want to carry on watching and find out what is going to happen next and to have their questions answered.
This film conforms with the convention of sound because there will be non-diegetic and synchronous sound to make the scenes more effective and to help the audience understand what is going on and so they know what emotion is intended.
One thing that subverts to the genre is when the doctor finally denotes emotion and finally lets all of the hurt he has out. This connotes that he isn't afraid to denote his emotion and finally shows everyone that there is something going on in his head and that he isn't okay and need help. This also subverts to stereotypes as men are usually seen as strong people that show no sign of weakness.
