Sound
The music throughout this opening sequence create tension which makes it more intense for the viewers to watch as it makes the scene more effective and interesting to watch. The sound also makes the scene seem more important as it catches the viewers attention more and makes them pay closer attention to the scene. This fits in with Todorov's theory of equilibrium as it connotes that there is a number of situations that build up to an important event that may disrupt all equilibriums.
Narrative to set the scene
This film opening starts by showing some sort of scientific and dangerous experiment that looks life threatening. This connotes that this film ail involve a lot of scientific and dangerous experiments or just very dangerous events that can risk a number of lives. This also connotes that not only is the main characters life in danger but everyone around him is and that. This fits in with Vladmir Propp's theory of characters as this opening connotes that the main character may be the villain without trying to be and the girl that ends up hurt may be the princess of the story.Introduction to the main characters
During the opening the viewers were introduced to only a few of the main characters and they still wasn't introduced properly so this fits in with Barthes theory of the enigma code as it leaves the audience wanting to know who the main characters are and who's going to be the characters that they need to keep an eye on and who they will like and dislike. This makes the viewers want to watch the film as they will want their questions answered. This makes the film more effective because it makes the viewer carry on watching the film to see how everything works out.Mise-en-scene to set the scene
During the opening it uses props to make the scene more effective as it helps the viewers understand whats going on more in the film as they are able to uses certain props to figure out what the scene is showing. It also helps the viewers predict what may happen as certain props will suggest certain outcomes of the situations that are happening. This also made the scene more effective because it sets the scene and sometimes helps the viewers decide what genre the film is going to be.
Location
This opening sequence is set in some kind of science lab which lets the viewers know what sub genres are included in this film. This connotes the the film will include a few experiments and will include life threatening situations that may leave everyones lives at risk. This fits in with Barthes' theory of the enigma code as it will leave the viewers wanting their questions answered that may include; why are they in a lab? Why are they experimenting on this man? What has he done and why is he being used? Will he kill anyone? Will he die? etc.Opening credits
The credits start by showing that its Marvel studios production to let the viewers know that this film with be based on the original comics and will help the viewers realise what genre this film will be and whether they will like it or not. It then goes on to the actors involved that include Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell, Christina Cabot etc. This lets the viewers know who is going to be featured in this film and tells them whether they will like any of the actors or actresses. This attracts interest as it makes them want to watch more closely if they see one of the actors they like.
